XML and databases
SQL is arguably the most important
language ever developed for accessing databases. XML is rapidly becoming the most
important language forrepresenting and exchanging data across the World-Wide Web.
Applicationwriters everywhere know that using SQL and XML together will be critical tothe
success of their organizations.
The SQLX Group was formed to develop
specifications that bring XML togetherwith SQL. Its specifications will be published by
other appropriateorganizations, such as ISO and ANSI. Under consideration
arespecifications for publication of SQL data in an XML format, importing XMLdata into SQL
databases, and specifying the relationships between XMLschemas and SQL databases. The
specifications already developed by theSQLX Group have been submitted to ANSI and ISO for
inclusion in a new partof the SQL standard, known as SQL/XML. All components of
thosespecifications, both those already submitted and those still under development, are
covered in the tutorial.
